The Patriote Proposition Print E-mail

Logline:

A terrified woman seeks clues to her family's disappearance in Quebec during an attack on British agents by French Canadiens and American recruits using arms cached along the U.S. border.

Synopsis:

On the New Brunswick frontier, Elizabeth Darmon finds a bloody carriage that held her husband William and her sisters with husbands Charles and Richard. Alone, she sets out to find answers through deplorable conditions along the St. Lawrence River and reaches Quebec City. There, she encounters Richard who runs from her and falls to his death at the Citadel and her search uncovers a woman pretending to be Elizabeth with another William.

Charles recovers from a gunshot near the scene of the abduction. Blinded by loss of memory, he flees ruthless trappers to the City and also stumbles upon the impersonators. They convince him to help the Patriotes, a radical element of reformers seeking French Canadian independence who are planning and attack on the governor's palace. He is sent to secure the help of Americans stockpiling arms at hunting lodges across the American border. Meanwhile, the hostages make a desperate attempt to escape from a barren island on Lake Champlain.

The trail leads Elizabeth to discover that Richard has a brother and finds evidence of fraud involving the imposter, Madam Cazeau, leader of the radicals.

The failed assault makes Charles a wanted villain by the English authorities and a hero to the French Canadiens as tensions build toward revolution. At an address by the Governor, angry citizens threaten riot, but Charles comes forward and convinces the French citizens to have patience. As the scene closes, the tourists discover what really happened at the Citadel.
